Phosphorescence (in the common sense of the term) observable with the naked eye:
No data
Activator(s) and spectrum:
Activator(s): Mn2+ ,
Peaks in the spectrum (nm):
- 591 nm (Mn2+)
- 690-750 nm (Cr3+)
No spectrum yet
Comments on spectrum and activators:
The luminescence of tsavorite in the yellow region (591 nm) is originated by Mn2+ in dodecahedral coordination (D2 point symmetry) while the luminescence in the red region (690–750 nm) is originated by Cr3+ in octahedral coordination (Oh point symmetry) in a strong crystal field. (See ref A. Idini)
Best localities for fluorescence (*):
- Merelani Hills, Lelatema Mountains, Simanjiro District, Manyara Region, Tanzania;
(*)The data are not exhaustive and are limited to a few remarkable localities for fluorescence
